James "Jim" F. Miller, age 85, of North Olmsted, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Bradley Bay Assisted Living, Bay Village.
He was born in Cleveland and had been a resident of North Olmsted since 1968.
James served in the US Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart for a wound received in Europe. After the war he worked in the retail portion of floor and window coverings, preferring to be his own boss he was the owner of Home Center West for thirty years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Clarence Church in North Olmsted.
He played baseball on the Huff n' Puffer's team until he was 83 years old. He enjoyed all sports and music, especially Big Band and recorded children's stories for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Lynn (Mike) Winter of Spring, Texas, Peggy (Martin) Kilcoyne of DeBary, Florida, Maureen (Jack) Sedmack and Susan (John) DeLaat both of North Ridgeville; 12 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren; brother, Gilbert of Olmsted Twp.; sisters, Florida, Mary Lishing of Streetsboro and Joan Pepke of Parma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1984; brothers, Bob, Bill, George, Paul and Bernard; sisters, Sr. Francis Claire, SSJ, Ritanne Karr and Grace Karr; and parents William and Clara (nee Nowalk).
Friends may call Thursday from 5 – 8 PM at the Bogner Family funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville where a prayer service will be held on Friday at 9:15 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Clarence Church, 30106 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted. Rev. Tom Flynn will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark.
