Bradenton, Fla. - Mrs. T.W. (Juanita Brooks) McDowell, 79, of Bradenton, died unexpectedly Monday in Bradenton Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 18, 1900 in Toledo, the daughter of the lat Edward and Etta (Donahue) Brooks.
Mrs. McDowell and her first husband, Merle T. Kelley, were former superintendent and matron of the Ashtabula County Nursing Home from 1948 until 1969 when they retired and moved to Florida. Mr. Kelley died in 1971.
Mrs. McDowell lived in Florida for the past 20 years and was a member of the Westminster Church in Bradenton. When residing in Ashtabula she was a member of the First Congregational Church.
She was also a member of Mary Stanley Chapter, Daughters of American Revolution.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore W. McDowell, of Bradenton; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Jean) Gordon, of Encino, Calif.; a son Dr. Merle T. Kelly Jr., of Brandon, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Mabel) Wirth of Bradenton, Fla. and Mrs. William (Marian) Humphrey of Ashtabula, Oh.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Fred Kelley, three sisters and one brother.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ducro & Son Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave. Rev. Oliver Hallberg, pastor of First Congregation Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
