son of Oliver & Jane(Hughes)Abington, husband to Clara Abington∼Ed L. Abington, 88, of Poplar Bluff, stockholder in The National Bank in this city and it's first president, died at his home Tuesday morning of a cerebral stroke after having been in ill health for the past three or four years.
An outstanding Southeast Missouri banker and businessman, Mr. Abington was born July 7, 1867, on a farm in St. Charles county, Mo. For more than 50 years he had lived in Butler county and had held various political offices, among them that of mayor of Poplar Bluff. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Claire Curry Abington, along with whom he had visited many times in Caruthersville.
Funeral services were to be held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at the family home, with the body to be taken later to St. Louis for cremation.
