Lulu Joens was born August 10, 1885, in Durant, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Ruhser) Joens. She was raised in Durant and attended the area school. Her father was employed as a windmill repairman, who also owned a shop in Durant. Following the death of her sister, Alma Adams in 1951, she married her brother-in-law, Ira Otto Adams and the couple lived in Phoenix, Arizona, where she has since made her home. Ira preceded her in death on April 26, 1956. Known as "Zam" to all who knew her, she celebrated her 100th birthday on August 10th of this year. She is the last surviving member of her family. She will be laid to rest next to her sister, Elfrieda Joens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Elfrieda Joens and Alma Adams and one brother, Otto Joens.
