James Thomas Armstrong died at age 68 on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at his home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on July 10, 1937 in Biloxi, Mississippi to James Allen and Lydia Cora (Benny) Armstrong. Tom retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years of service in the United States Air Force. He lived in the Alamogordo area since 1973. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church with his wife, Genevieve. Tom and Genevieve wee married on November 2, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri. They would have been married 49 year this November.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Anderson Armstrong; three sons, the Rev. Jay Armstrong and his wife, Laura of Belen, New Mexico, James Armstrong and his wife, Joyce of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Rev. Daniel Armstrong and his wife, Julie of Stanton, Texas; three daughters, Lydia Telles and her husband, Louis of La Luz, New Mexico, Andrea Martin and her husband, Curtis of San Antonio, Texas and Trudy Hartmann and her husband, Ray of Gatesville, Texas; 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Raley and her husband, Wendell of Biloxi, Mississippi and Martha A. Wood of Gulfport, Mississippi.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Steve E. Trout, officiating. Direct cremation provided locally under the direction of Alamogordo Funeral Home. His ashes will be interred on July 14, 2006 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
