CARLISLE, April 20 -- David W. Sunday, 80, died this morning at his home in Middlesex. He was a life-long member of the Democratic party and active in political affairs of his community.
A native of Bridgeport, Perry County, he lived in Cumberland County since 1901. In his early life he was a lumberman and farmer. For the past 30 years he was vice-president and a director of the Farmers Trust Company of Carlisle, and for the past 28 years president and director of the Eberly and Orris Manufacturing Company of Mechanicsburg. He held both positions at the time of his death.
In 1926, Judge E. M. Biddle, Jr., appointed Sunday to fill a vacancy in the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners. He was reelected to this position for a four-year term in 1927.
He served two terms as County Poor Director, in 1909 and again in 1913.
He was a member of the Middlesex Evangelical Church, and of three Masonic bodies in Carlisle, St. John's Lodge No. 260 F and A. M., St. John's Royal Arch Chapter and St. John's Commandery of the Knights Templar.
His wife preceded him in death in April, 1942.
He is survived by two daughters and seven sons: Mrs. George Lesher, Charles W., Clarence R., all of New Kingston; Mrs. Bessie Gladfelter, Edgar L., Paul O., all of Mechanicsburg, and Wilbur F. and L. W., Carlisle. Twenty three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Two brothers, C.W. and Henry W., both of whom lived with their brother David, also survive, as do two sisters, Mrs. Acquilla Baker, New Kingston, and Mrs. J. W. Sloop, Harrisburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from his late home. Burial will be in the Westminster Cemetery, with the Rev. R. F. Springman, of New Kingston, officiating. Friends may call at the home Friday evening.
