Mattie Mae Alderman Gray died on January 9, 2012 at Southminster. Born February 9, 1912 in East Hillsborough County, FL, she was the daughter of Mattie Dell Bryan and Harvey Alderman. She was a graduate of the University of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Myers Park Baptist Church, Winghaven Bird Sanctuary, the Mint Museum of Art, and a past member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was also a life member of the Charlotte Garden Club.

Survivors include her son and two daughters, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Farnum Moore Gray, Sr., her brothers and sisters, Gettis Alderman, Seth Alderman, William Alderman, Roy Alderman, Leon Alderman, Jesse Alderman, Leslie Alderman, Clara Alderman, Ray Hanks, Lena Adams, and Ruby Sweat.
