Edith Leakey Bates, February 7, 1928 – November 30, 2007 Edith went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at peace in her home after a long illness. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. She lived her life for the Lord, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Howard Leakey; father, Romeo Dexter Leakey; husband, James Cecil Bates; sisters, Lynn Braswell, Lillie Mae Haynes and Ann Heyerhoffer; and brother, Junior Leakey. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 in McCall Memorial Chapel in Marion. Rev. Ricky Wood will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Chapman Cemetery.
