Jacob E. Abig, 93, of 621 River Hill Drive, Omro, died Thursday, March 08, 2007, at the Hospice Home of Hope. He was born September 16, 1913, in Owosso, MI, the son of George J. and Katherine Krail Abig. On September 10, 1949, he married Mary Morris at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2006. Mr. Abig was formerly employed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for 30 years, serving as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at Waupun Correctional Institution. He moved to Fond du Lac as an infant until 1949 when he moved to Waupun. He retired in 1979 and moved back to Fond du Lac in 1990. Mr. Abig was a veteran of WW II serving with US Army Air Corps as a Crew Chief with the 342nd Fighter Squadron, and was responsible for the service and maintenance of P51 Mustangs and P47 Thunderbolts. He was a member of Abler-Engel American Legion Post #454 of Mt. Calvary. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winneconne, and a former member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Jacob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are two sons; James (Kristine) Abig of Omro, and John (Gwen) Abig of Port Washington, three grandsons; Jeremy (Amy) Abig and Joseph (Lauren) Abig, both of Charlotte, NC, and Scott Abig of Port Washington, and three great grandchildren; Jeremy Jr., Charlotte, and Sophia. His parents, wife, two brothers, Alex and Albert, and two sisters, Amalia Schick and Emma Abig, preceded him in death
