Emerson Vance is my Great-great grandfather. He was one of first white children born in Lebanan Twp., Clinton Co., MI. He was attending Albion college when the Civil War broke out. On April 22, 1861, enlisted in Company I, 2nd Infantry, MI Volunteers at Kalamazoo, MI for 3 yrs. Fought on the side of the Union. November 24, 1863, wounded in Knoxville, TN. 1/30/1864-4/9/1864 On duty with Company I, 17th Infantry, MI Volunteers. July 21, 1864, discharged at term of service, Detroit, MI - Returned to Pewamo, MI. March 21, 1868 married Sarah Ann McVeigh. They had three children, Ulysses Grant, Wilber E. (my great grandfather) and Bertha.
