The Otsego Farmer, 1911

Miss Celestia Barnard

Miss Celestia Barnard was born on a farm on Bowe Hill in the town of Hartwick June 24, 1833, and peacefully entered into rest at her home in that village Monday, June 10th.

She was the youngest and last survivor of six daughters of Solomon Barnard and Julia Bissell, both of prominent families in the early history of that town and Milford. In 1853, with her parents, she removed to Milford and at the time of her death was the oldest continuous resident there. She became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in early girlhood and always remained a faithful worker in that organization. She is survived by one nephew and three nieces as follows: David L. Sayer, Mrs. S.N. Saxton and Miss Julia B. Soule of Milford, and Mrs. Emeline Rounds of Mt. Vision. They have been unremitting in tender care of their relative in her feebleness and infirmity. The funeral was held from her late home Wednesday, at 2 p.m., her pastor, the Rev. N.B. Ripley, officiating. Interment was made beside her kindered in Milford Cemetery.
