WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Irene M. Smith Sanders, 76, of 13862 Pennersville Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 6, 1923, in Lantz, Md., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Edith M. Lewis Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Sanders Sr., in 1994. They were married Jan. 11, 1944.
She was a 1940 graduate of Thurmont High School.
She was employed by Knouse Foods. She and her husband had owned and operated Eddie's Grocery Store in Cascade.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Sabillasville, Md.
She was a member of National Chapter of AARP; Blue Ridge Sportsman Club; and Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 239 in Cascade.
Survived by: a daughter, Patricia J. Henning of Waynesboro;
a son, Edmond Sanders Jr. of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.;
eight sisters,
Marie E. Willhide of Western Maryland Hospital in Hagerstown, Edna V. Pittinger of Thurmont, Md.,
Hazel F. Smith of Ashville, N.C., Beulah M. Rice of Frederick, Md. Betty Lou Burrier of Rocky Ridge, Md.,
Margie Patterson of Baltimore, Cora L. Kuhn of Smithsburg and Nancy Stottlemyer of Sabillasville; three brothers,

Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro. Pastor Tony L. Hardcastle will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery in Cascade.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
