An Old County Settler Dies in Tuttletown District

John Gerber died at his home below Tuttletown last Saturday, after an illness which extended over the greater portion of three years. He was a native of New York and 67 years of age.

He came to his county with his parents when he was a child, and his residence has been continuous here ever since. He followed general farming and stock-raising.

He was a good citizen and as such esteemed by the people generally.

A widow, two daughters and a son are the members of his immediate family left to grieve his departure.

The funeral was conducted from his late home Monday, interment being made in the Columbia cemetery.

John was the son of Adam and Barbara Gerber, German immigrants.

John grew up in the Columbia area, but by 1910, he and his son, John, tended livestock near Tuttletown, California, several miles west of Columbia.

After the death of her parents, daughter, Ada Gerber Edwards, and her husband, Waldo K. Edwards, ran the family cattle ranch near Tuttletown for many years. The ranch is now inundated by the New Melones reservoir. Ada and her husband passed away in Sonora within hours of each other on November 22, 1977, shortly before the ranch was flooded.
