The obituary of Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" (Kincer) Adams as published in the February 1, 1940, issue of The Mountain Eagle newspaper (page 1):

Good Mother Passes

Tuesday of this week, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Adams, wife of the late George Adams, long resident of the Mouth of Dry Fork section, passed away after a month of lingering illness. She was one of our old-time mothers, being related to the Adamses, Webbs and Kincers and the first families that came to this section.

She was born December 2, 1867, and was the daughter of Fred and Lizzie Adams Kincer. Her mother was Liddie Adams, daughter of William G. Adams, who married into the John Adams family, the first settler that came to Letcher County. At the time of her passing she was 73 years one month and five days old. Her husband was George Adams, son of Allen Adams of Colly Creek. For more than 35 years, her home had been at the mouth of Dry Fork, were she lived at the time of her passing.

In her passing, she leaves eight children as follows: Doshia Cornett, Julia Whitaker, Cynthia Cornett, Liddie Cornett, Mattie Campbell, Fred Adams, section forman at Kona, Dock Adams and Alvin Adams; two brothers and one sister, Dock Kincer, Ben Kincer and Liddie Adams all of Mayking.

She had been a member of the Old Baptist Church for more than forty years and was always a regular attendant until her health and age kept her from going. Her husband preceded her in death some fifteen years ago.

In her passing the children, neighbors, friends and relatives have lost, but it is her gain. She has left the memory of a sweet, kind, patient Christian-like life. She was a mother indeed, and in her passing Heaven has been made to gain.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday of this week by Elders Kirby Ison and G. Bennett Adams. Interment in the cemetery near by. Burial by the Burke Funeral Home.
