BROTHER AVIATORS TO HONOR JONES IN DEATH

Magic City Flier, Killed in Fall at Tampa, Was Pioneer Air Mail Pilot Here

As the body of Vivian M. Jones, Birmingham aviator, is laid to rest in the earth of Forest Hill Cemetery Thursday afternoon, a flight of ships from Roberts Field will circle overhead and drop flowers in a salute from the sky to their fallen comrade.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. T.A. Jones, 7612 First Avenue North, with Vice directing.

Ships of the One Hundred and Sixth Observation Squadron, of which Jones was a member several years, have been ordered on the line for a takeoff at 4:45 p.m. They will fly over the residence in formation and dip their propellers in final respect. The officer personnel of the squadron will act as pallbearers.

The body of Mr. Jones arrived here at 11:20 a.m. from Tampa, Fla., where he met his death in a fall from the skies which he had conquered for the last 12 years. The accident occurred while he was testing a motor at a 2000 foot altitude, and he died en route to a hospital.

Vivian Jones had the distinction of flying the first air mail over the route between Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans and was known among his brother pilots as a dauntless and skilful navigator of the air. His aerial training was received in the army during the World War, after which he entered commercial flying. He was a graduate of Central High School here.
