Ethel L. (Wood) McCarthy, 99, of Greenfield and formerly of Buckland, a retired self-employed beautician, died on Thursday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
She ran a beauty shop out of her home in Buckland for 35 years.
Born in Greenfield, she lived for several years in Buckland. She was awarded the Boston Post golden cane for being the town's oldest resident.
Her husband, Stephen McCarthy, died in 1936.
She leaves a daughter, Anna Peabody of Buckland; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-great-grandchild.
A son, Gerald, died in 1974.
The funeral will be Monday morning at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, and St. Joseph's Church, Shelburen Falls. Burial will be at Arms Cemetery, Shelburne Falls.
Calling hours are Sunday evening.
