Joseph John "Joe" Limacher was born on December 18, 1920 in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Frank J Limacher (1886-1958) and Celia E (Wilhelmi) Limacher (1888-1953).
He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1938, Joliet Junior College in 1941, Northwestern University Midshipman School in 1943, Loyola University in 1947 and Northern Illinois University in 1969. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Loyola, and a Master's in Educational Administration from NIU.
Joe served as a US Navy Lieutenant during World War II and was in the Naval Reserve afterwards. He saw action in both Europe and the Pacific, including Anzio, Italy, Southern France and Iwo Jima. Following the war he was married on August 4, 1945 to his fiancée Shirley Ann Smith (1921-2001) of Joliet.
He was a retired accountant from Texaco, elementary school teacher and principal and US Postal Service employee. Joe was also a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Joliet, the Senior Citizens Association, and Cantigny Post 367 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Following a brief illness after onset of dementia, Joe was 92 years old when he passed away on January 12, 2013 in Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville .
He was preceded in death by his wife. his parents, sister Alma M Limacher ( -1987) and by his sister Ruth C (Limacher) Schaufler ( -2009). Survivors included two sons, a daughter and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, and burial was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at Elwood, Illinois.
