Gene ODonald Wolfmeier, 90, of Fulton, passed away, Tuesday morning, May 31, 2022, at the Kingdom Care Senior Living Center. He was born to Charles Frank and Merle Elizabeth (Taylor) Wolfmeier on October 13, 1931, in Fulton, MO. On October 16, 1960, he married Edith Marie Stiers, at the First Christian Church. They celebrated 61 years of marriage last fall. Gene attended Fulton Public Schools. When he was a teenager, he started driving a dump-truck for his brother for C.T. Wolfmeier Trucking Company. Later he served in the United States Army and the United States National Guard. In 1957, he was hired by the Fulton Police Chief, Woody Lewis, as a police officer. He went to work for Porter Brick Plant for two years from 1965-1967. In 1967, he was approached to head the Department of Traffic Control for the City of Fulton. He attended many conferences and received many certificates over the years taking courses in advancement of street sign materials, paint, and Duncan Meters. He took great pride in how the City of Fulton should appear. When the City would purchase a new paint gun, Gene would purchase the old one and created a side business called Wolfmeier Striping Service painting private parking lots of many businesses for years. In 1992, he retired from the City of Fulton with 33 years of dedicated service. But, he didn't sit still very long when he took a part-time job with William Woods College from 1992-1998 emptying trash cans and other odd jobs. Gene was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Fulton where he belonged to the Couples Class. He was a Charter Member of the Downtown Optimist Club and was recognized along with Kermit Gohring as the only remaining Charter Members in 2015. During the summers when his son Michael was growing up, he coached baseball with the sponsorship of Harbison-Walker. His teams usually won the 1st place championship trophy. He was a true fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He is survived by a son, Michael G. Wolfmeier (Dianne) of Fulton; a daughter, Cecilia M. Lee (John) of Columbia; three grandchildren: Jordan T. Lee of Columbia; and Kalyn A. and Bryce M. Wolfmeier of Fulton. Also surviving from his first marriage: a daughter, Sharon J. Bogardus of Westminster, SC; a son, Tommy L. Wolfmeier of Conyers, GA; four grandchildren; Rebecca A. Keel (David) of Social Circle, GA; Michael "Chad" Wolfmeier of Conyers, GA; Jessica R. Boston of Lawrenceville, GA; and Charlie W. Futrell (Courtney) of Fort Mill, SC; six great-grandchildren and many extended relatives.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; infant sister Francis Elizabeth Wolfmeier; sister, Helen Lorraine Schoening; brother, Carl Taylor "C.T." Wolfmeier and one grandson; Spc. Zane Thompson Lee in 2012. Visitation will be Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the First Christian Church in Fulton from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Services will begin at 3:00 pm with interment to follow at the Callaway Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. The Pastor Bruce Williamson will officiate. Full Military Honors will be presented. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Staff of Kingdom Care Living Center for the loving care of their "Pops" and to Compass Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
