William LaVerne Dimond, 71, of Yorkville, IL, formerly of Plano, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, after a lengthy illness. He was born February 10, 1933 in Aurora, IL, the son of LaVerne H. and Marie L. (Renton) Dimond.
He was a 1951 graduate of Plano High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1956, aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid. He married Paula Greer on November 3, 1956 in Cambridge City IN. He retired from the Illinois State Police District 5 Joliet in 1986. He operated his own Lawn Maintenance Service for over 20 years, until illness forced him to retire.
He was a member of Plano United Methodist Church and served on many of its boards. He was a lifetime member of Sunbeam Masonic Lodge, where he served as Worshipful Master and as Treasurer for many years. He belonged to the Illinois Police Association. He served for many years on the Plano Police Pension Fund Board and was a member of the Kendall County Historical Society and the Retired State Police Association.
He is survived by his wife, Paula (nee Greer) Dimond of Yorkville; two daughters, Dianne (Charles) Southall of Carmel, IN, and Suzette (Rudy) Malert of Plano; one sister, Karen (Millford) Mikkelson of Plano; several sister and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; his son, Douglas, in infancy; and a brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Plano United Methodist Church, with Pastor Christina Stanton, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Turner Funeral Home, 3952 Turner Ave. (1/4 mile West of Eldamain Rd. on Rt. 34), Plano, IL 630- 552-3022, where there be a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM.
Memorials may be directed to The American Parkinson's Disease Association and Plano United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.
