MARION - Mitchell E. Proctor 97 passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, at McLeod Hospice House. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Rose Hill Cemetery. The service will be streamed live on the Richardson Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend.
Mr. Proctor was born in Dillon, a son of the late M.R. Proctor and Mary Susan Hamilton Proctor. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having reached the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Proctor was also a member of Marion Baptist Church. He was a farm mechanic and electrician by trade, having retired from B&W Milling Company.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ella Mae Tanner Proctor.
Mitchell was well respected in the farming community as being a knowledgeable mechanic and electrician. He was known for his availability and would show up any time, day or night, as the job required. After his retirement, he continued to enjoy working on small outdoor power equipment, tractors, or anything he found that no longer worked. He loved fixing things for people and helping others.
When he was asked by a niece to what he attributed his long life, Mitchell replied that the Bible teaches to honor your father and mother and that is what he always tried to do. He was a family man who loved his wife, his children and his grands and honored those relationships as well. He played sports in high school and always loved watching sports, especially if it was the Gamecocks.
Surviving are a son, John Mitchell Proctor (Joyce) of Quinby; daughter, Susie Proctor (Van Worsham) of Duluth, GA; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
