The name Agatina comes from St. Agata, the patron saint of Catania. Catania is Bronte's provincial capital and the second largest city in Sicily.

Agatina grew up in Bronte and did her schooling there.

Her generation were some of the first in Sicily to go to school. Both her mother and father could not read or write and they wanted all their children to go to school. And they all did.

As a young adult Agatina was a home-body and prefered staying at home and helping her mother around the house. And there was much to do with the large family.

Agatina never married.

She became very ill in her late 20's and the local doctor could not help her. Her brother Serafino took her to Palermo to help find medical treatment for her but it was too late and Agatina passed away after arriving in Palermo.

I only heard bits and pieces about Agatina from my mother and I'm guessing that she was buried in Palermo.
I will continue to research her story.

Agatina's little brother Insullo would name his youngest daughter after her.
