Died Very Suddenly

Mrs. Abigail Silsby Axline died very suddenly last Saturday evening, at her home west of the reformatory. Mrs. Axline was an aged woman who had enjoyed very good health for one of her years. She helped with the housework on the evening of her death, and the end came very suddenly. Death was due to a rupture of the heart. She was a native of New York state, and was born January 11, 1827. She was therefore 89 years, 3 months and 18 days old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Silsby. The funeral was held at the home last Tuesday. Nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers. The services were conducted by Rev. Lemon of the Methodist Episcopal church, and the remains were interred at Center chapel.

Abigail Silsby was married to John Axline July 27, 1844. To them were born ten children, six of whom are living: Susan Wells of Anamosa, Sarah Cochonour of Manly, Iowa, Jesse Axline of Independence, Joseph Axline of Anamosa, Olive Wilkins of Newport, and Alice Hines of Independence. Margaret, Mary, William and an infant son died before their mother. In the year 1870 she came with her family to Jones county where she had since lived. Her children and grandchildren bear testimony to their great love for her, as well as their admiration for her kindly spirit and her loyalty to her family and friends.
