Michael J. Petit, formerly of Annandale, Virginia, has passed. Mr. Petit grew up in Aurora and was a graduate of Holy Angels School and Marmion Military Academy, Class of 1966. After receiving his B.A. and M.L.S. at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., he had a long career as a law librarian, including the law school libraries of George Mason University, the University of Miami, the District of Columbia School of Law, Georgetown University, and American University. In addition to his academic career, he also worked at the library of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Mr. Petit was active in many professional library organizations and was a past president of the South Eastern Association of Law Libraries.
Mr. Petit was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cross, in 1996; his parents, W.J. and Josephine Petit of Aurora; and his niece, Sarah Petit. He is survived by his brother Patrick and sister-in-law Elizabeth of Beltsville, Maryland; his niece Rebecca Petit of Fontana, California; and cousins Sue Blazek of Batavia, Gretchen Ochsenschlager of Joliet, and Steven Whitney of Studio City, California.
