Sgt Lon R. Harris, one of the longest time members of the Los Angeles police force in 1906. Though long a member of the force, Sgt Harris was aged only 47 years. He came to Los Angeles in 1887 and was appointed in 1888.There are only three men on the force who have served longer than Harris, who wore No. 4 star. He was in line for promotion when death overtook him. His passing was sad. He leaves a widow and a young son.
His death is said to be the result of injuries he sustained in May of last year, when he fell from a Belt Line car. t is said Sergt. Harris never fully recovered from the shock of his injury. A year before the street-car accident he was brutally assaulted in the Nevada livery stables during a fight there.
