Katherine Chalfin was born December 10, 1870, at LaBelle, Mo., and died February 19, 1952. She is buried with her husband, John Baker, in the Hazelton Cemetery.
Katherine, who answered to the name Kate, came to Burleigh County, ND, with her parents during the spring of 1890, settling near the town of McKenzie. There were eight girls and one boy in the family. Katherine was the third child. Her father, Andrew J. Chalfin, was born in Mead County, KY., December 14, 1838. Her mother's name was Sarah Triplett born in the state of Kentucky August 31, 1843.
John Baker and Katherine Chalfin were married at Williamsport April 16, 1894. Following their marriage, John and Katherine moved into the log cabin John had constructed on his homestead. Thus began a happy, fruitful life on the prairies of 'Old Dakota'.
To this union were born five children: Frances Katherine, Andrew Joseph, Lillian Irene, Helen Mildred, and Hazel Lucretia.
