Ross A. Palmateer, 77, of Coldwater, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy with military honors.
Ross was born May 2, 1933 in Kinderhook to Clyde and Florence (Sackett) Palmateer. He married Glenna Aikman on March 25, 1953 in Angola, Ind.
Ross was a lifelong resident of the Branch County area. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Palmateer began Reliable Washer & Appliance Service in Coldwater in 1959 and operated the business for 51 years. He was a former captain with the Coldwater Fire Dept for 10 years - in the late 50's and drove Coldwater school bus for 20 years, all while running his appliance repair business. He was a member of the Coldwater American Legion and enjoyed bowling on a league. Ross umpired for Coldwater Little League for many years and was very skilled in woodworking. He enjoyed computers, fishing, bike riding, gardening and bird watching and had traveled extensively, with his wife Glenna, throughout the country in their motor home. Ross enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ross is survived by his wife Glenna, his sons Roger Palmateer, Brian (MaryKay) Palmateer, Robert (Cheryl Pitts), Phillip Palmateer, his sister Carol (Harry) Hudson, his six grandchildren Amanda (Shane) McCavit, Bonnie Palmateer, Kasie (John) Goodman, Dawn Palmateer, Meagan Palmateer, Keegan Palmateer, and his four great grandchildren Bryce, Caleb and Alyssa McCavit and Jayce McDonald-Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Everette Wayne Palmateer.
