Armand Alessandrini was born and raised in New Milford, New Jersey; he was the son of Angelo and Mary Alessandrini. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in February, 1943, and joined Company D, 20th Marines - the pioneer battalion of an engineering regiment of the 4th Marine Division. He served as a rifleman in the battles of Namur, Saipan and Tinian.

Alessandrini's regiment was disbanded in the fall of 1944. He transferred to Company C, 24th Marines, and participated in the battle of Iwo Jima as a platoon messenger.

PFC Alessandrini was killed in action on March 8, 1945.
