hands of the enemy. I then moved my family to this state, confidently expecting that I would be able to make arrangements for their remaining here during the continuance of the war. I have failed entirely in making the arrangements I hoped to make and as there are none of the enemy now in their side of Big Black I ask for the above mentioned leave of absence for the purpose of moving them back to Miss. I have never been absent with out leave, and during the thirty months I have been in service have never been absent with leave but twice - once on sick leave for thirty days while I was a private and once for ten days while in the West last Summer. Dr. [Theodore Munson] Shaw of the 22nd S.C. Regt will attend to my sick during my absence. F. Anderson, Asst Surg Jeter's Battery Genl Evans' Brigade"
