Bernard G. "Bernie" Scott passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the age of 81. Celebration of life: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Brown, Owens & Brumley's Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel. Interment: Bernie will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the funeral home. Bernie was born Nov. 12, 1931, to the late William Richard and Ora Butler Scott in Stonewall County. In addition to being a wonderful husband, father, brother, son and friend, Bernie was a petroleum landman, first working with Texaco for 17 years and spending the next 35 years of his storied career working with wildcatter Clayton Williams in Midland. Always a hard worker, Bernie retired in January 2012 at the age of 80. Bernie was a lifelong avid golfer with a great handicap and a wicked sense of humor, greatly loved and respected by his family, friends and colleagues. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge and thank the top-notch caregivers at Silverado Senior Living in Irving for their loving help and fantastic care in the twilight of Bernie's journey. Survivors: Bernie is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Virginia Holum Scott; son, David Stephen Scott, daughter-in-law, Bamba Scott, and grandson, John Peyton Scott; daughter, Kristy Scott Hagar, son-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Hagar, and granddaughters, Rachel Elizabeth and Laura Adeline Hagar; daughter, Susan Perry Miller, son-in-law, Mike Miller, grandchildren, Hannah Leigh Perry, Sarah Lynn Perry and Steven William Perry; sister, Imogene Means; brother, Rodger Scott; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
