Obituary - Last week Stony Brook witnessed the death of two members of one its most prominent families, when Luther Smith died on Tuesday in Dr. King's Hospital, Bay Shore, and Mrs. Josephine Sleight Smith, his mother, died on Friday in Stony Brook.
Mrs. Smith and her son had both been ill for some time.
Luther Smith was 51 years old and is survived by two sons, Leroy and Leonard; two brothers, William and Kenneth, and one sister, Mrs. D. Floyd Davis.
Services were held at the Stony Brook M.E. Church on Thursday, by the Rev. E.O. Pritchett. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Josephine Smith was the widow of the late Jonas Smith, who died several years ago.
Funeral services were held at her late home on Sunday, with the Rev. William Holden, of St. James Chapel, officiating. Interment was Monday in the family plot on Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, William and Kenneth; one daughter, Mrs. D. Floyd Davis, and a brother, Chas. Sleight, also several other relatives residing in Stony Brook.
