Helen was born in Lockney, Tx to Bessie Luella Burris and Marcus Walton Rector. She grew up with nine siblings moving around Texas as the family made a living sharecropping. She was only allowed to finish the 3rd grade in order to pick cotton instead of furthering her education. She was able to read and write and had good common sense. She was pretty and kind taking care of her two daughters. She was a good cook and appreciated her home as she had never stayed in one place for a long time. She and William "Alton" Oldham divorced in about 1965 and she later married Richard Price and they are buried together at the Pomona Cemetery. I think of her so often and miss her everyday.
