Arkansas Governor. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1883, he taught school, studied architecture, structural engineering and was proficient in both. When the Indian Territory was first opened for settlement, Donaghey became wealthy as a railroad contractor, (1899-1903). In 1910, he was elected as a Democrat the 22nd Governor of Arkansas, serving until 1913. While in office, he strove to improve public health, education, roads, and railways. Also the Booneville T.B. Sanitarium was created, agricultural schools were developed into Arkansas Tech, Arkansas State, Southern State and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. After leaving the governor’s office, he served as president of the Board of Control of State Charitable Institutions, (1922-26). In 1929, he transferred ownership of the Donaghey Building, plus the Federal Bank and Trust Building in Little Rock Arkansas, to Little Rock Junior College.
