George (Boehm) Behm, account by Christine Nunes: He came to this country when he was 5 or 6. He was an orphan, traveled with an aunt, and they were frequently hungry. He was illiterate until marriage, when his wife taught him. First sold Singer Sewing machines, and eventually established and owned 5 furniture stores, four which his sons ran. During WWI, due to anti-German sentiment, he legally changed his name from "Boehm" to "Behm". Lived on Aliceanne St. early in marriage; 1910-12 moved to 2115 East St.; 1920 purchased house on 2832 Guilford Ave. where he lived until his death
