Major Conner was an officer in the Army Air Force at the beginning of World War II and aided in the defence of Bataan, Luzon Island, Philippines.

When the American forces surrendered on April 9, 1941, he evaded capture and eventually organized a guerrilla force in the mountains west of Clark Field.

The information his group gathered was sent by submarine to American authorities and used in retaking the island in 1945.
