Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1920s. He was born as Rudolph Thaddeus Ash to Thaddeus Ash (1872-1928), and his wife Cora Belle Henderson Ash (1881-1931), in South Bend, Indiana, on November 2, 1899. He was educated locally and at the University of Michigan in Ann, Arbor, the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, and at the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was a member of the Student's Army Training Corps, and was drafted in World War I, before deciding to pursue a professional baseball career. He played the positions of outfielder, rightfielder, leftfielder, and second baseman, with the Chicago American Giants making his professional baseball debut with them in 1920. He continued to play with the Chicago American Giants through the rest of the baseball season of 1920. The 5'8" and 170lbs outfielder, rightfielder, leftfielder, and second baseman, also played with the Hilldale Club in 1926, and the Newark Stars in 1926. His 162 Game Average consisted of 12 Games Played, 513 Plate Appearances, 459 At Bats, 54 Runs Scored, 95 Hits, 0 Doubles, 14 Triples, 0 Homeruns, 54 Runs Batted In, 0 Stolen Bases, 0 Caught Stealing, 41 Walks, 0 Strikeouts, 0 Intentional Walks, 0 Hit By Pitch, 14 Sacrifice Hits, 0 Sacrifice Flies, 0 Grounded Into Double Plays, .206 Batting Average, .270 On Base Percentage, .265 Slugging Percentage, .535 On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage, and 64 Adjusted On Base Percentage Plus Slugging Percentage. After leaving his professional baseball career, he worked as an investor for a broker's office in the Manhattan area of New York City, New York, and as a redcap, a train station porter, or worker who helps passengers carry their luggage, for the Steam Railroad in New York City, New York. He passed away following a two-week illness in New York, New York, on February 16, 1977, at the age of 77. Following his death, his funeral services were held at Alford's Mortuary in South Bend, Indiana, and at the Olivet AME Church in South Bend, Indiana, with the Reverend Pastor Clarence Robinson officiating, and he was buried in Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana. He was married to Anna Perdita Sanford Ash (1901-1985), in Brooklyn, New York, on June 9, 1927. The couple had one child together, a son named Rudolph Thaddeus Ash Jr. (1928-1980). His son Rudolph Jr. went onto serve his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War from February 12, 1928, to January 25, 1953. He passed away in New Rochelle, New York, on September 26, 1980, at the age of 52, and he is buried in Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana. His wife Anna passed away in South Bend, Indiana, on February 17, 1985, at the age of 83, and she is also buried in Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.
