Cora Frances Bates was born 13 June 1913 in Oklahoma to Joseph Yellowhorse Bates and Elizabeth June Kenney. The family was all full blood Osage and on the Osage Tribal Rolls in Osage County. Cora married Homer Neal Shaw on 7 March 1935. They had two sons. The oldest Bates Edward is deceased and buried in this same cemetery. Cora was a wonderful mother and wife. She was also a very good cook and made the best meat pies. Cora died in Fairfax, Oklahoma on 24 March 1984. Cora's Indian name is on her tombstone.
