Betty Irene Crail Engemann
1936 - 2010

Early Life: Betty was born February 1, 1936, in Livingston, California, to Earl Benjamin Crail and Elizabeth "Beth" Echols Crail. Betty grew up in a farming community in the Livingston/Merced area, graduating from Livingston High School. In 1961, she graduated from Brigham Young University in Home Economics.
Life's Work | Interests | Service: On August 18, 1961, Betty married Robert Philip "Bob" Engemann for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Betty and Bob knew their marriage would be exciting, when on the day of their wedding, they learned that Bob's singing group, The Lettermen, received their first Top 10 hit for "The Way You Look Tonight." Bob and Betty enjoyed living in Studio City, California, where they forged many lifetime friendships and saw the world together as part of concert tours with The Lettermen. After moving to Provo, Betty became Executive Director of Utah County's Better Business Bureau and The Center for Women and Children in Crisis. She was never timid to speak her mind, and was always a strong voice for women's issues in the communities in which she lived. While Bob & Betty lived in Studio City, she was a fierce and valiant fighter against pornography. Along with her husband, she led many nights of picketing at a shop just around the corner from where their children attended grade school. Betty was very active with many interests, such as water skiing, snow skiing, cooking, gardening, sewing, reading novels, watching ballroom dancing and ice skating, and absolutely loved animals. Betty Irene Crail Engemann stepped out of her earthly body and returned to our Heavenly Father on April 21, 2010. She was 74.
Awards | Accolades: In recognition of her dedicated service as an advocate of the rights of crime victims, she was honored in 1994 by the Judges of the 4th Judicial District and named Chair of the Victim Rights Committee.
Survived By: Her beloved husband, Robert; brother, Ray Crail; children, Andrew (Dana), Lizanne, Melissa Hymas, and Daniel (Jenny); 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, Tai the cat, Abby the dog, and countless extended family and friends who love her dearly.
