Woman GOP Leader Dies

Mrs. Lorienne Fowler, wife of Dr. Frank E. Fowler of Astoria, died in Portland Wednesday of a heart condition. She was visiting her doctor's office at the time of her death. Mrs. Fowler was recently appointed chairman of the legislative committee of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Medical Assn., Western District. She was a graduate of Northwestern College of Law in 1933 and admitted to general practice the same year. She was admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court in 1937.

Mrs. Fowler had a long career of duty with state legislatures, serving as chief clerk of three Senate committees from 1935 through 1939 and as legislative counsel for the State Medical Society in 1943, '45 and '47. She was a Republican candidate for the Legislature in the last election.

She was a member of numerous clubs, civic organizations across the state, the Oregon State Bar, the Clatsop County Bar Assn., and the Women's Ad Club of Portland. She was a Republican precinct committeewoman from 1936 through 1958 and was a past member of the Multnomah County Republican Central Committee executive.

Born in Portland in 1903, Mrs. Fowler made her home in Astoria. She is survived by the widower and one step-daughter, Mrs. William Moran of Arcadia, Calif.

Funeral will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Colonial Mortuary and commitment will be private at the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.
