It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Felipe Andrez. The son of Francisco and Soraya Andrez, and brother of Flavia, Felipe was born on October 1, 1988 in Suzano, Brazil. Throughout his life, Felipe lived in several parts of the U.S. and Canada and became a dear and devoted friend to many on the University of Michigan-Flint campus and beyond.

As a senior majoring in Business Administration, Felipe became involved in multiple aspects of student life at UM-Flint. He served in several capacities in the International Student Organization, including president. He was an Orientation leader as well as a member of Student Government in 2009, working in many areas and was elected president of the student body in Fall 2011. Felipe participated in the Intercultural Leadership Seminar (ILS) and eventually joined the ILS staff as a student facilitator. In summer of 2009, he traveled abroad to China through the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU), using art to deepen cross-cultural understanding by co-creating with Chinese artists, HIV/AIDs-orphaned Chinese youth and adults. Felipe joined the International Center staff in summer 2008 and became an integral part of the office, offering ideas from his unique perspective that helped transform the international landscape of the UM-Flint campus.

Felipe was enthusiastic about government and dreamed of becoming a diplomat, working with representatives from other nations to develop economic policies to help smaller nations succeed. As a health–conscientious individual, Felipe could also be found working out in the Recreation Center, where he worked as a Lifeguard over several semesters.

Felipe was more than just a compassionate and generous person-he was a very loyal son, brother, friend and colleague. His positive attitude, rambunctious laugh, and unwavering optimism about people and life will be fondly remembered by his numerous friends around the world. He will be greatly missed.
