IRA JACKSON DROWNED.
A Telegram Announces the Fact--No Details Known
Irving Jackson received a telegram from his brother, Roger, yesterday morning saying that their brother, Ira, had been drowned. The telegram gave no particulars and it is not known at this writing how the fatality occurred. Wm. McCarty, Roger Jackson and Ira Jackson started from here about three weeks ago to look over a tract of timber in Ontonagon and Houghton counties. Ira was a good swimmer and it is certain that something out of the usual must have happened that he should die in the water.
Mr. Jackson was one of the recruits that went from here to the front last year. He was county surveyor of this county and well known from one end of the county to the other. The remains will arrive here tonight and the funeral will take place from the M. E. Church at 2:00 tomorrow.
The Diamond Drill, Crystal Falls, Michigan, August 26, 1899.

Funeral of Ira Jackson
The funeral of Ira Jackson, a mention of whose untimely death was noted in these columns last week, was held from the M. E. Church in this city last Sunday. A large number of friends and relatives of the deceased were present and followed the remains to their last resting place across the river. The local members of Co. E. 34th Mich. acted as escort to the remains. The G.A.R. post and the band also turned out. The deceased was a Spanish war veteran and was given a military burial.
Mr. Jackson held a policy for $1000 in the Northern Sick Benefit and Accident Assn. The policy is in favor of his two little boys, a very fortunate arrangement for the little fellows.
The Diamond Drill, Crystal Falls, Michigan, September 2, 1899.

Ira Jackson, a cook, aged 27 years, was drowned while bathing in a pond near Winona mine Friday of last week.
The L'Anse Sentinal, L'Anse, Michigan, September 2, 1899.
