Cornell Stephens age 83 of Center, Kentucky passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT/2pmET, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation will be 3pm-8pmCT/4pm-9pmET, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and after 9amCT/10amET, Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born in Tompkinsville, Monroe County, KY, the son of the late Tim C. and Verda O. Williams Stephens.

He was a member of the Center Church of Christ. He was a retired educator of 37 years having been principal of North Metcalfe Elementary School for 28 years (1959-1987). He is an Army veteran of the Korean War and served in Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Gittings Stephens, and the following:
Three daughters: Diana (Ronnie) Smith of Center, KY; Connie (David) Travis of Owensboro; Susan Kay Stephens of Center, KY

One son: Bennie C. Stephens of Center

Two grandchildren: Angela (Jamie) Powell of Irmo, South Carolina and Justin D. Smith of Center, KY

Two great grandchildren: Kylie and Kellen Powell of Irmo, South Carolina

Two sister in laws: Dorothy Richardson and Blanche Stephens both of Tompkinsville, KY

One brother in law: Rex (June) Gittings of Tompkinsville, KY

Four nephews: Tim Stephens of Texas, Clifford Stephens of Tompkinsville, KY; Melvin and Tommy Lindsey both of Smiths Grove, KY

Two great nieces: Chelsea and Courtney Stephens of Tompkinsville, KY
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys R. Lindsey and a brother, Kenneth M. Stephens.
