U.S. Congressman. He was attending the Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, when he left school in 1862, to serve as a Private in 68th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Union Army, during the Civil War. After the war, he engaged in agricultural pursuits in Bloomington, Illinois, was Mayor of Bloomington, (1871 10 1876, 1884 to 1886), trustee of the asylum for the blind at Jacksonville, Illinois and president of the board of trustees of Wesleyan University. In 1893, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. Failing for re-nomination, he returned to agriculture pursuits until his death at age 70. Congressman Frank Hamilton Funk, was his son.
