William Henry Zucchero

Services have been held for retired Kent State University faculty member William Henry Zucchero, 71, of Oceanside, Calif., who died Feb. 9, 2002, after a long illness.

Born in Morgantown, W.Va., he was the son of Peter Joseph and Frankie Zucchero. He lived in Ohio from 1948 to 1984 and in California from 1984 until his death.

Mr. Zucchero was a professor emeritus in theater at Kent State University and California State University at Northridge. In his 35-year teaching career he was Director of the School of Theatre at KSU from 1983 to 1984, coordinator of the Division of Theatre from 1972 to 1983. He was co-founder and coordinator of the KSU Theatre Touring Repertory Company and Porthouse Theatre. He taught over 40 different courses, directed 65 productions, 40 masters' theses, 15 doctoral dissertations, acted in over 25 productions and authored two books. He was a member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, Ibsen Society of America, American Society for Theatre Research, and United States Institute for Theatre Technology.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sherill Barkalow Zucchero; daughters Wendy Overly, Amy and Robin; son, William Wynn; two grandchildren; and brother Joseph.

Services were held at St. Michael's by the Sea Episcopal Church in Carlsbad, Calif. on Monday. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, Calif.
