George R. Hartmann, age 80, of W1416 Foundry Road, New Holstein, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

He was born Dec. 30, 1924 in the town of New Holstein, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Dorn Hartmann. George attended St. Ann Catholic School. He served in the Army from 1949-1950. On June 20, 1970, he married Magdalene "Mutzie" Schwartz at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. George was employed with Bremer Manufacturing Inc. in St. Anna until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife: Mutzie of New Holstein; a son: Steven of New Holstein; four sisters: Sister Monica Mary Hartmann F.M.M. of North Providence, RI.; Sister Mary Edward Hartmann O.S.B. of Clyde, Mo.; Sister Theresa Hartmann O.L.C. of Green Bay; Ann (Gervase) Meyers of Chilton; six brothers: Herman Hartmann of Elkhart Lake; Frank (Loretta) Hartmann of Sherwood; Fred (Gladys) Hartmann of Plymouth; Adam (Anida) Hartmann of Menomonee Falls; Al (Pat) Hartmann of Kiel; Hugo (Delores) Hartmann of Kiel; and a sister-in-law: Pat Hartmann of Kiel.

He was preceded in death by his parents: a sister: Sister Mary John Hartmann O.S.F.; and a brother: Edward Hartmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Frank Weber will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz.

Friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Ave., New Holstein, on Monday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home.
A memorial fund will be established in his name.

The Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein is assisting the family.
