The Caudill family, also spelled Caudle, Cordle or Cordill, came to Wilkes County, NC, in the 1770's, and settled on the Roaring River.
They were a very large family of Scottish origin with many descendants in Wilkes, Ashe, and Alleghany Counties.
Some sources state that Jesse P. CAUDILL was a son of a Revolutionary War veteran James CAUDILL, Jr., of Wilkes County, who later moved to Perry County, Kentucky.
Other researchers, however, believe that Jesse P. Caudill was the son of Jeremiah CAUDILL of Wilkes County.
Jesse P. Caudill's birth and death dates are from his gravestone at the Jesse P. Caudill Cemetery, located off Road 1140 in Alleghany Co., NC.
His wives Sarah and Biddie are also buried at this cemetery. (Alleghany Cemeteries Through 1986 pub. by the Alleghany Co. Hist.-Gen. Society.)
J.P. Caudill's will is recorded in Alleghany Will Book A, p.126.
The will of Biddie Caudill is recorded in Alleghany Will Book A, p.121.
Thank you so very much Carole
