Her father and step father were employed with the railroad and moved the family around the area, living in Scenic, Creston and eventually Rapid City where Bernice graduated from St John's Catholic High School. She married Sam Galbraith soon after his discharge from the Army on February 16, 1946. Bernice was an accomplished, self taught commercial seamstress, known for her curtains and drapes through the Fabric Center, as well as making clothes.
She was very active in the Home League of the Salvation Army, and volunteered many hours throughout the area with other aspects of the Army. Bernice was an excellent bowler, bowling in a league at Meadowood and Robbinsdale Bowling Alleys. Bernice ran a very organized house hold, balancing family and work, never letting work get in the way of her family.
Her family and friends know her for her wit, humor and for placing her family first with unconditional love.
Survivors include her husband,children,daughter in law,15 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren, and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Rod, sisters; Virginia, Etta Mae, Rita and Fern and sons; Donny, Gary and John.
A visitation will be offered from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Wednesday, January 30 at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service at Serenity Springs of Rapid City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service, Serenity Springs Chapel of Tranquility with Major James Beardsley officiating. Interment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established by the family.
