Jane Ellen Abshire Cundiff, 75, of Rocky Mount, left her earthly home to begin her new life in heaven on Saturday, November 26, 2005. She was born in Boones Mill, Va. on December 18, 1929 as the seventh child of the late Rev. William David Abshire and Flora Mills Abshire. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jesse A. Abshire and wife Mildred, Rev. W. Randolph Abshire, Paul H. Abshire, and David H. Abshire; and brother-in-law, Raymond L. Webster. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter Gordon (Potts) Cundiff; her daughter, Annette Cundiff Board and husband Thomas Benny; and her grandson, Walter Benjamin Board who was the light of "Granny's" life. She is also survived by a brother, Howard D. Abshire and wife Jackie; sisters, Mae A. Webster, and Naomi A. Wingo and husband Cecil; and numerous nieces and nephews. She touched many lives as a kindergarten teacher at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church for 15 years. She passed her love of teaching along to her daughter. She found much pleasure in the beauty of nature that her Lord and Savior provided. She enjoyed flowers, feeding and watching wild birds, drawing, and waving to passersby from her front porch. Her love for her family and friends will provide us with many loving memories that we will hold in our hearts until we meet again. We know her prayers for us from haven will see us through the days ahead without her.
