Mrs. Amanda Dalton, 86, widow of Kit Dalton, famous Confederate fighter and reputed member of Jesse James’ gang, died here yesterday at the Shelby County hospital. She was penniless, but the Daughters of the Confederacy have raised sufficient money to provide a burial plot near the grave of her husband, who is buried in Confederate Rest.

At 15, Kit Dalton left his native home in Logan County, Kentucky and joined the Confederate Army. He served with General Forrest’s Calvary and later became a member of the Quantrell gang.

After the war, Dalton’s biographer say, he joined the James brothers. Later, he became a Texas Ranger, married and settled down. He and his wife formerly lived in Blytheville, Ark. Dalton died in 1920.

Amanda married Daniel Webster (aka Kit) Dalton on 03 Sep 1876 in Farmington, Graves Co, Kentucky. The date of birth shown on the Kentucky, Marriage Records is 1848 in Calloway Co, KY. The 1860, 1910 and 1920 census agree with dob is 1848. The 1900 census says dob is April 1846.
