Mrs. Phoebe Raines Dies
Salem Woman to Be Buried in New London Today.

New London, Ia., May 2.—Mrs. Phoebe Raines, a former resident of New London, who has made her home for the past few years with her daughter, Mrs. Enoch Beery in Salem, Iowa, died Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock.
She was born in Andersonville, Ind., in 1830, and in 1850 she married Zebedee Raines. They came to Iowa a few years later and settled at New London, where he died. To this Union were born eight children. Mrs. Raines is survived by three daughters and one son. They are: Mrs. Marietta Anderson of New London; Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. Enoch Beery of Salem, and Charles Raines of New London. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ireland, of Minneapolis, and one brother, Samuel Hamill, of Los Angeles., twenty-eight grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren.
The body will be brought to New London and funeral services held in the Church of Christ, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be in charge of Rev Mr. Williamson, pastor of the church. (The spelling "Hamill" is possible. It is in her obituary and several other sources.)(Pheobe is the spelling on her grave monument and Raines is the spelling of her married name, not Rains.
They had seven known children.
