SHREVEPORT, LA . - Charles O'Keefe, Sr., 81, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Guest House Nursing Center following an extended illness. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Bro. Howard Hall officiating.
Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton. The family will be receiving friends an hour prior to service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Charles was born on September 24, 1931 in Rosston, AR to Orville O'Keefe and Lessie Franks O'Keefe. He was a graduate of Bodcaw High School in Arkansas and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Charles was retired from Interstate Electric Company as a traffic Engineer with 37 years of service.
He was well known for many years throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area for refereeing high school football and basketball games. Charles had a "gift of gab" and never met a stranger. He was a great repairman and kept family, friends, neighbors and his church in good working order. He was a faithful member of Shreveport Baptist Temple.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Buddy Joe O'Keefe.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Alma June Butler O'Keefe, sons Charles R. O'Keefe, Jr. and Larry Joe O'Keefe, grandchildren Magen O'Keefe Krutilek and husband Stanley, Michael O'Keefe and Eric O'Keefe, great grandchildren Kali O'Keefe and Jacob Krutilek, nephews Ronnie Joe O'Keefe and Gary O'Keefe.
